WEST BENGAL JUDICIAL SERVICE EXAMINATION, 2010

PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSION, WEST BENGAL


The Commission will hold a competitive examination for recruitment to the posts in West Bengal Judicial Service in three successive stages viz.

(i) Preliminary Examination (Multiple Choice Objective Type),
(ii) Final Examination (Conventional Type – Written) and
(iii) Personality Test.

The Preliminary Examination which will be a screening test for selection of candidates for the Final Examination, will be held in June, 2010 in Kolkata and Darjeeling. Only candidates of the three hill sub-divisions viz., Darjeeling Sadar, Kalimpong and Kurseong will be allowed to appear at Darjeeling Centre. The Final Examination will be held in July-August, 2010 in Kolkata. ALL CANDIDATES WITH LOW VISION INCLUDING THOSE FROM THE DISTRICT OF DARJEELING WHO REQUIRE THE HELP OF A SCRIBE ARE REQUIRED TO APPEAR AT KOLKATA CENTRE ONLY.


Pay : Rs. 9000 – 14550/- plus allowances as admissible.

Vacancies :

(a)      The number of vacancies arising in 2010 due to retirement/promotion of W.B.J.S. officers – 35 (Unreserved – 23, BC – 02, SC – 03, ST – 02+04*=06, and PH – 01).

* 04 vacancies reserved for S.T. for the year 2008 are carried forward.

(b)    The number of vacancies which may arise due to death, voluntary retirement, resignation or unwillingness to join the service by selected candidates – 10 (Unreserved – 08, BC – 01 , SC – 01).



Qualification

( I ) A citizen of India or such a person of other nationality as declared eligible by Government of India.

( II ) A degree in Law from any University or any Institution affiliated to a University recognized by the State Government or the Central Government.

( III ) Must be enrolled as an advocate in the roll of Bar Council of any State or Union Territory in India on the date of advertisement for the Examination.

(IV) Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali ( not required for recruitment in the case of candidates from hill areas of the district of Darjeeling ).


Age

Not less than 23 years and not more than 35 years on the date of advertisement for the examination, i.e. on 05.03.2010 (i.e. born not earlier than 05.03.1975 and not later than 04.03.1987). Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC & ST candidates of West Bengal, by 3 years for BC candidates of West Bengal and upto 45 years for persons with disabilities having physical disability of 40% and above and by 2 years for candidates who have been in Government service for at least two years.


N.B.      Candidates with low vision will be allowed the help of a scribe, if required.


Fee

Candidates must enclose with their applications a fee of Rs. 210/- (Rupees two hundred ten) only in the form of Indian Postal Order or in the form of receipted Challan from a Government Treasury in West Bengal or the Reserve Bank of India, Kolkata. Candidates belonging to SC/ST of West Bengal and Persons with Disability specified under Persons with Disabilities Rules, 1999 are not required to pay any fee. Such exemption of fees, is however, not applicable to any BC candidate.

Application Form

(i) A candidate must consult the “Information To Candidates” for the examination, use the prescribed application format and fill in the application form correctly against all the items in his/her own handwriting with ball point pen of black/blue ink and furnish required particulars/documents. If any item(s) of the application is considered inapplicable to the candidate he/she should write ‘NOT APPLICABLE or (N.A.) ’ against the particular item(s) and in any case no item of the application should remain unfilled.

(ii) Correction/overwriting, if any, should be accompanied by signature of the candidate.

(iii) In case the application is not filled in accordance with the above instructions or any of the required documents is not enclosed, it will be treated as incomplete/defective and summarily rejected.


Note : Keeping the application form in front, the particulars/documents are to be stitched with the application securely with a durable thread in the following sequence – (1) I.P.O. or Treasury Challan, in original (not required for SC/ST candidates of W.B. and Persons with Disability),(2) Attested or self-certified photocopies of (i) Madhyamik or equivalent qualification cert., (ii) Law Degree certificate (iii) Certificate of enrolment in the roll of Bar Council (iv)SC/ST/BC/PH/Ex- Serviceman cert. (if applicable), (v)Citizenship Certificate

    I have submitted my form without filling up the last column of item no.-12 i.e. remarks.I have no remarks in our madhyamik and H.S.marksheet but in LL.B. marksheet.Will be my form cancelled ?
