UPSC CSAT Syllabus, Pattern and Age Limit

No Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination from 2011

UPSC CSAT 2011 Syllabus is released, Please visit http://syllabus.iupsc.com/csat/

The examination system of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is updated from time to time to keep it in harmony with the changing environment. In regard to the Civil Services Examination (CSE) the Prime Minister has approved the proposal for introduction of Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in place of the existing Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination. The CSAT is expected to come into effect from Civil Services Examination, 2011.

This information was given by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Shri Prithviraj Chavan in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.

CSAT will not only enable us to choose civil servants with right aptitudes but also end the use of scaling system, a matter of concern to some.

i think that upsc should reform in the syllabus according to the changing scenario because by changing the paper the rural student would not be able to compete against a DU/JNU student………..
this thing is really a matter of concern because our country is a socialistic country………

    March 11th, 2010 at 22:26 | #5

Till the syllabus is not out on cannot tentatively argur what the test will be like.but if it is like other aptitude tests then by default it will include things like numerical and logical reasoning , even more problematic is checking moral and ethical standards-it is a psychological situation.
this criteria will really leave no good career option for humanities students per se…it is already a degraded field now the subject is gone for worse.like always science and commerce will have their way.isin it?

    March 12th, 2010 at 02:46 | #6

i too support the concern for lakhs of rural and humanities aspirants who will be cornered and have to be in a disadvantageous position vis a vis science stream students.the new pattern willbe a deathtrap for many aspirants.

Of course, Aptitude Test is a good way to test the knowledge of candidates.. But before that, the UPSC should clear the confusions related to CSAT as early as possible..The change in syllabus has already made many of the aspirants depressed.. Is mathematical ability too involved in the aptitude testing. If yes, Engineering and Management students will get a boost. It will be a blow to humanities students.

CSAT ll be more advantage for engineering and management students. However its not very tough and arts and science students also can crack CSE if they work hard.

Whether the main exam pattern will also be changed… How many optionals will be there?

I need some examples of questions that may be asked in csat exam 2011. I would also like to know whether the Syllabus of main exam will remain the same or it is likely going to be changed before the exam in oct 2011.

    March 14th, 2010 at 05:26 | #18

i think it is too early too comment about the pattern. first the picture should be clear. what did they think, they plan, pattern of paper etc. only than we can comment about its plus-minus. hope it will be better for aspirants of all streams if they have really the aptitude for administration. worry factor is the methodology for testing this aptitude. hope upsc relieve us as early as possible from this mental zigzag.

the CSAT will be a better pattern to choose the new civil servants as it emphasizes more on moral values rather then someone knowledge

FINALLY UPSC CAN THINK TO GET CANDID WITH INTELLECTUAL MINDS THIS TIME; SO FAR IT WAS ONLY THE DUMBS WHO HAD GOOD EXPRESSIONS WITH PENCIL AND PAPER EXCEPT FOR THE FEW. APTITUDE DOESN’T MEAN TO FILTER HUMANITIES OR LIBERAL ARTS STUDENTS BUT TO PICK THOSE TO HAVE SOME COMMON SENSE TO SENSE THE SITUATIONS AND REACT IN THE OPTIMUM WAY.

thats great thing for upsc because it made so worried about syllabus so that i can start

  24. March 20th, 2010 at 02:02 | #24

the CSAT will be a standardized pattern of exam but the govt need to reform to help the poor students in village areas, n also no one is clear about the scheme of exam which lacks in preparation for the students in 2011. this will affect n will be a death trap for the aspirants who have their last attempt in 2011

Hey everybody here , I have gone thru all of your above said comments & do agree with your views … But now what to do as we all are already preparing for 2010 Preliminary as well as mains exams & really worried to know that the syllabus to going to be changed but atleast UPSC should inform the candidates atleast 2 years before making any change .
Because what about the efforts & hardwork which we have already done % doing , its just like a an electric mental shock which UPSC has given to its aspirants .
Would say this IS INJUSTICE to all the candidates …
Atleast we have been given sometime …

  30. March 23rd, 2010 at 05:30 | #30

s what u said is evident that it effects all the aspirants…..
I dont understand why they have introduced aptitude in prelims bcoz it makes the knowledge of scienc and maths, a compulsory one.. already sci and math candidates have lot of opportunities to receive a prestigious post like engineering or medical n moreover an mba candidate also needs to attend CAT GATE or exams which contain aptitude as their main criteria……then y do they give option to Xth students for opting a group without maths n science when they feel it is necessary to get any high post in any field they proceed with..
its a myth … for which upsc needs to give a detail explanation to save the life of present aspirants as well as the future followers…

it is really a shokking news . but upsc is also right, that this type of exams could produce more efficient administrators but upsc should also provide modal papers for CSAT,as it will be the first exam of changed pattern .and no student have any idea about what is going to come.
UPSC must provide with a proper pattern and modal papers to help out the students …..

Its da human tendency to resist the changes…Even if UPSC has brought out a change, it shud nt b an issue….bt da important part is that, it shud provide proper support in da form of revised syllabus, sample/model papers, updates/ notifications from time 2 time…Afta UPSC is da only source for right information…

the new pattern CSAT is good because earlier G.S. covered everything under the sun and there was’nt any limit but now we are relying more on concepts and reasoning and logic so i feel its good.

can i get a model Practice paper for CIVIL SERVICES APTITUDE TEST 2011.

  37. Pradeep Hegde
    April 19th, 2010 at 01:16 | #37

The new pattern CSAT has not yet implemented(as we know that it ll harm to the last attempt people in 2011). So don’t panic(Even it may change at the last moment), you people put your maximum effort in whatever you are currently doing..
And Guys be open minded when the syllabus is mainly of arts subject(including G.S we ll much emphasis on arts subjects), those Engg and management people never come back with anything. And similarly we should not comment that it ll be advantages for them and not for us.
As u people know that we are going to become administrative officers we should have broad mind.. Cheers guys…
