Recruitment in Indian Police Service (IPS)
PIB: Special Recruitment Drive for IPS
The Government proposes to conduct a special recruitment drive, open to serving junior ranking police officers from State and Central police forces, for filling a large number of vacancies in the Indian Police Service(IPS)
To mitigate the shortage of Direct Recruitment quota of Indian Police Service(IPS) officers, the Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed to fill about 490 posts in that quota through the mode of Limited Competitive Examination in a time span of 07 years. The said proposal has been sent to the Department of Personnel and Training and the Union Public Service Commission for consideration.
This was stated by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shri Ajay Maken in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

Is there any consideration in age limit/any other preference/any new proposal for The Territorial Army Officer/Defence officer to be inducted in IPS cader?
There should be an induction policy for Defence officers/The Territorial Army officers (holding at least 5/7 years service)into IPS cader by holding Comp.exam to tame their full potential .
There should not be any age and rank bar for applying to special recruitment of IPS officers from central police forces. In this way all ll get chance to show their potential.
